INVERCAULD ESTATE
HISTORIC SEAT OF CLAN FARQUHARSON #1
Invercauld House, as the centrepiece of a 100,000-acre estate in Royal Deeside, is the historical seat of Clan Farquharson although Braemar Castle is also often considered in this role. A famous daughter of Invercauld, was Anne Farquharson who married Angus MacIntosh, Chief of Clan Chattan. At the time of the Jacobite Rising, Anne raised over 300 troops in support of Bonnie Prince Charlie and in defiance of her husband who was sworn to the Government Forces, thus earning her the nickname of Colonel Anne.
Today the Estate is run as a modern business owned by Family Trusts under the guidance of Philip Farquharson and other members of his family whereas Braemar Castle is on a long lease to the Braemar Community Ltd, a charity which manages the castle as a visitor attraction and hospitality venue. Salmon fishing, grouse shooting, deer stalking, as well as skiing, forestry and tourism all form parts of the diverse management of Invercauld Estate.
